Overview

The municipality of Sutton is a holiday resort located in the Eastern Townships, Quebec. The Mont Louis and Pinede Estates, a district located on a hill, was lacking water pressure. It required a pumping system to supply drinking water to approximately thirty homes and the necessary flow to fight a fire (500gpm) in the case of an emergency.

Pompaction, one of our business partners, in collaboration with the BPR-Enviraqua engineering firm located in St-Hyacinthe, built and supplied a Grundfos pumping station equipped with SQE variable speed pumps.

The installed equipment includes:
2 – 22SQE05A-80 pumps
2 – Control Units pressure sleeves with supports
2 – CU300Control/Units
2 – RF Filters
1 – CR90-2-2 with a pressure setting valve
1 – Control panel with a Siemens programmable controller

The 3 pumps are controlled by the programmable controller, which manages the system in order to maintain a constant pressure of 100 psi on the aqueduct’s network. The necessary flow of drinking water necessary to supply the houses varies from 0 to 50 usgpm. A peak flow output of 500 usgpm is required to fight a fire. At night, or during the day when the demand is very low, a single SQE pump functions at a reduced speed to maintain the pressure at 100 psi on the network. When the demand exceeds 25 uspgm, the second pump starts to maintain a constant pressure. Once a week, the programmable controller alternates the priority of the pumps. In the event of a fire, the CR90-2-2 pump starts to supply the necessary flow to fight the fire.

The system has been in operation since June, 2003. The municipality is pleased with the comfort that was provided to the residents and the substantial energy savings thanks to this Grundfos state of the art technology system.
